Genre

Genre is the term for any category of literature, art, film, music. Genre's are ongoing and are always changing. As new ones come in, the old ones exit.

The features within a horror film could be:
  • Suspenseful music

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas 
  • It is 2minutes 14 seconds in length
  • You can tell that the film is Historical 
  • You can tell this because of the Nazi uniform and you can tell it is set in WWII and the concentration camps, striped pyjamas and Jewish people
  • You know that the story is based on a Nazi high ranking officer and his family during WWII. The officer's son goes exploring and finds the concentration camp he's in charge of, he then becomes friends with one of the Jewish boys within the camp. You can infer that the boy is naive and he doesn't know what is happening to his newly found friend.
  • The trailer challenged my expectations because the boy was the main focus and his story was being told, not from the side of the father or the Jews. 
Tropic Thunder
  • The trailer is 2minutes 30seconds in length
  • You can tell the film is an action film & comedy
  • It's a film within a film and there are comic scenes in the trailer 
  • Not a lot from the trailer, only that the recording of a film
  • It challenged my expectations because its a film within a film



Lesson 4

This film is called 'Hunt For The Wilderpeople', this film is an adventure-comedy and you can tell this from the conventions used within this film. The film is about a foster boy who is placed with a new family, the mother (Bella) wanted him to stay with them really badly, but the father (Hector/Hec) doesn't really want him to stay with them. Then further on within the film Bella unexpectedly dies, then Ricky & Hector go into the bush and go into hiding. The music at the beginning of the film is more dramatic than expected for the genre of the film. But as the film progresses the music starts to get more mellow as he starts to bond and feel more at home with the family he is now staying with. When they are in the bush, the music is hyper and has a sense of freedom and hope, you can infer the freedom because they are in the wild and away from all the limitations. The signal of hope can be inferred because the audience are hoping that Hector and Ricky survive and get back to safety. The dialogue is from New Zealand. In the scene when Hector's dog dies, the music matches the scene because its a sad scene. The music is a peaceful melody that seems emotional, this carries on to the next scene when they put Bella's ashes into the water. The most common sound effect within this film would be the gunshot, this is effective because the two protagonist's
